Much as I love Southern Culture on the Skids, I'm not sure I'd classify them as "alternative/grunge/punk/powerpop". More Rockabilly (or "Trashbilly"). If we're simply going for non-hippy/non-jam-band, I can definitely list a whole lot more (and I wouldn't have specified HWIII's second sets).

That said, I'm definitely interested in your list--there's enough names there I already had to make me want to check out more. I'd like to welcome you to the club of people tracking non-jam-bands on the Archive. Up till now, it seems like it was mostly just Tyler and me. :)

Here's a link to a thread started by Tyler a few years ago:

And I'll throw in:
http://www.archive.org/details/DeathCabforCutie (altrock, probably should have been on my original list)
http://www.archive.org/details/RobynHitchcock (a legend, and ditto)
http://www.archive.org/details/Ween (another ditto)
http://www.archive.org/details/TheRainmakers (classic rock; Stephen King's a fan)
http://www.archive.org/details/SurfCoasters (blistering surf guitar from Japan)

cheers and thanks. :)

Hi guys, I haven't been all through the lists y'all posted yet, but I don't think anyone has mentioned this one as a non-jamband:

Maybe I'd call it grunge-metal?
